Nancy Hadley Biography
Nancy
graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1989 with a BA in
Fine Art. She immediately went to work for the San Francisco-based Academy
Studios, a startup company that has become one of the finest museum display
building companies in the world. In 1996, Nancy moved to Southern California and
took a position as a freelance sculptor with Mattel, creating prototypes of new
product in the Barbie, Disney, and Nickelodeon lines in 3D from drawings. After
the birth of Nancy’s third child in 2001, she took a step back from the
intensity of Mattel, and focused on murals and fine art. In early 2004, she saw
an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and thought it would be a neat idea
to volunteer to help a needy family.
Nancy
contacted the show with their website, presented a portfolio, and became a
member, volunteering on three houses (each episode consists of the complete
renovation of one house). After the third house, she became the show's muralist,
and that position has turned into the one she currently holds--lead muralist and
scenic artist. She works on every show; and her responsibilities are many,
including designing many of the rooms from ideas, supervising room decor, and of
course, painting most of the murals and supervising the rest. Examples of her
work on the show, as well as private commissions, on Nancy’s website.
